Initially a Squadron of the Air Defence Cadet Corps, number 14 Squadron formed as part of the newly established Air Training Corps on February 15th, 1941.
As one of the first Fifty registered Squadrons, number 14 Squadron would be known as a Founder Squadron, and would be entitled to put the letter 'F' after their Squadron number. Thereafter being known as 14F Squadron, Air Training Corps.
Staff : Commanding officer (CO) The Commanding Officer is overall in charge of the squadron. Not only does she run the squadron but also plays a role within the RAF (VRT). Officers carry out a weeks training at RAF Cranwell where they then receive their initial rank as a Pilot Officer in the College hall. NON-COMMISIONED oFFICER (nco) The squadron currently has two Non-Commisioned Officers, these personnel are uniformed members of staff that assist the Commanding Officer (CO) in the running of the squadron. The role of the Senior NCO is essentially the CO's deputy, but will often hold a variety of duties such as in charge of dicipline or uniform on the squadron.
cIVILIAN iNSTRUCTOR (CI) Our Civilian Instructors are all volunteers, without which the squadron would cease to exist. The CI's help the squadron in a variety of ways whether it be teaching lessons on parade nights, providing a range of extra activities or simply driving to events. aRMED fORCES HELPERS Armed Forces helpers are also volunteers that give their time in exactly the same way as Civilian Instructors. With the knowledge they accumulate in the Forces, they are a great asset to the squadron and a brilliant help.
cIVILIAN cOMMITEE The Civilian Commitee are also volunteers who deal with the squadrons fiancial side. Between them, they often organise fundraising events such as bag packing etc.
